It’s common knowledge that I like metal, and I rarely step out of that realm. But I occasionally do, and mostly, I go back to other genres and videos I enjoyed in the past. It might make no sense to me, but I enjoy it anyway. So here’s another fun thread. I’d be honored if you’d add to it too. So here’s my guilty pleasure video of the day, or night: Ice-T - “New Jack Hustler (Nino’s Theme)”
I used to have Technotronic’s Pump Up The Jam on cassette way back when. I was a fan back then, only coz I hadn’t discovered metal yet. This video is total green screen all the way through, with visuals that might make your eyes go crazy. Welcome to the 80s! Hehehe.... Fun fact: Felly is credited with doing the rap on this song, and is also the focal point of the video, but Ya Kid K actually did the rap.
Okay, this one’s a twofer! I forgot that I had this one on my Spotify playlist. Hevisaurus is a band from Finland that dress up as dinosaurs and play heavy metal music that’s geared more toward kids. They’ve grown on me, and they used to be one of my daughter’s favorites. I still enjoy their videos.
@Old Nick I we grew up during one of the most amazing eras of music. I was a metal head and hip hop fan transitioning into middle school, before I got into hardcore and punk, and all this mixed sub-genres. The majority of my metal and hip hop collection stops around 95-96. How do you feel about the Judgment Night? I love it when hip hop and metal get together.
It can’t get more guilty for me than ABC. Though serisouly, everything that touched New Edition was golden!
Wow! That takes me back to my middle school days! I forgot all about these guys. I wonder what they’re doing now.
This video and song really isn’t a guilty guilty pleasure. In fact, I love it. It’s a great song, great video, with a positive message. We need more of that instead of the negativity. So here’s my challenge! When the news starts talking about shit hitting the fan, play this video! Urban Dance Squad - “Deeper Shade of Soul”
I have a thing for biker girls. It started when I worked at a grocery store. I bagged groceries for this biker babe. While I was loading her groceries in her truck, she was flirting with me, which was awesome coz I had barely turned 18 around that time. I don’t mind telling you she was on my mind for the rest of the night, and when I finally got home, I cranked a few out. I saw this music video before that, when when I saw this video, I popped wood. So to the ladies, please don’t be surprised if I ask you to dress as a biker for a party. Cycle Sluts From Hell - “I Wish You Were A Beer”
Paula Abdul wasn’t a wet dream for me until this video. Course, by then, I’d already moved on to metal.
Rob Scallon is a musical genius! From playing Slayer on a banjo to creating improvised instruments out of unlikely objects (a harp made out of a toilet seat), he’s done some amazing things. The ukulele metal videos with Sarah Longfield are my favorites. This one is a cover of Slayer’s Payback.
Wally Kazam is so unbelievably underrated. Their songs are top notch. Stan’s the Swamp Thing’s Happiness is one of my guilty pleasures. “I know that I’m not the mos sensitive guy, But I try. Actually, I don’t really try” Genius! Heres the full video. Also, that Ben Folds as the humbug. http://www.nickjr.com/wallykazam/videos/202-stans-happy-song/
I had to include the second, and last, at least for a while, Sunday Uke Groop metal video. Sarah sings the Cannibal Corpse song, “Evidence In The Furnace.”
Ok, here’s a twofer. Which in your opinion is better? The original or the cover? You be the judge. Army of Lovers - “Crucified” Ghost - “Crucified”
Ever see the video "Killing you" by Asking Alexandria? Not really heavy metal. But it's one cool video. Gives me all types of crazy fun concepts to try. Especially for Halloween
Goggles and top hat! This chick was steampunk before it became popular! My former stepfather hated this band...for some reason. 4 Non Blondes - “What’s Up?”
The next uke group video...last one ever? This one is very dark! Rob Scallon and Sarah Longfield cover Slayer’s “Bloodine” on ukuleles. And here is the making of the video.
Unless Beavis and Butthead has something to say about it, this was a video MTV was very shy about playing.
