If you got a coupon in the mail for one free car no strings attached from any era what car would you be picking up?
1969 Dodge Charger with a 426 Hemi engine, but upgraded with all the modern safety features and accessories
2020 Ford Fusion Hybrid. Rented a 2019 model a couple of months ago; fully loaded and 55 MPG. Didn't want to return it.
A DeLorean, but with an automatic transmission. I can’t drive stick to save my life. Either that, or a Jeep Cherokee.
You should learn. Recent articles and news stories have shown modern day carjackers can't drive stick; it's the best anti-theft deterrent! Though it is a pain when you're stuck in stop and go traffic....
Egads! You should learn, it is a good skill to have. Nothing like launching up the on ramp shifting gears.... ….though on the con side, nothing is a greater pain than doing the clutch and brake tango in stop and go traffic.
I learned on my former sister in law's Pathfinder. We would drive to a nearby community college, which had a number of parking lots, found one big enough with a slight hill, and basically went in circles as I learned how to shift. This was in preparation for me to inherit my brother's S10 pickup, which had standard. The real trick is moving your vehicle from a dead stop while on a hill (hence the slight hill in the parking lot we felt was necessary for training) without stalling, or rolling backwards.
And as I told Old Nick, it seems stick shift is the poor man's carjacking deterrent, since the youngsters don't know how to drive standard.
Don't feel bad. There are people, regardless of whatever transmission their vehicles have, drive harrowingly. Followed a van on the freeway today, which drifted all over the lane (but had a tendency to drift right, with the passenger side tires sitting on top of the right side lane stripes). To make things worse, they had a young child who was facing towards us and looking out of the rear hatch window. Which implies either no car seat for the kid, or the kid managed to get out of it and the adults didn't care nor applied corrective action. Damn van nearly hit me as I passed it!
If memory serves, didn't the late Burt Reynolds have this car? If so, what happened to it after his passing?
2019 Ford Shelby GT 500 Metal Flame Blue with the white twin stripes. Because getting a Lamborghini would be a bit extravagant.
My mom had one of these when she was 17 until she turned 25 and sold it. I get my love for muscle machines from her definitely.
True story my friend got drunk and couldn’t drive like completely obliterated so she threw me the keys to her car (stick shift) and got in the passenger side promptly puking and passing out, I couldn’t even get the car to turn on I didn’t know you had to hold the clutch in
And with some vehicles, they won't start unless you're depressing the clutch and in neutral. It also sounds like you didn't do the other common mistake: shift into gear and pop out the clutch too fast, causing the vehicle to lurch. My brother's first truck also had standard, which he loaned to his friend one night. He popped the clutch while in gear and it lurched forward--straight into the parking pillar. Doing the same thing on a motorcycle, with a fistful of throttle, causes it to wheelie. Not fun if you weren't doing it intentionally....
Dodge Challenger Demon for me. Or if we can get 2, A challenger and a tesla roadster. Strip the roadster and make the challenger electric.
