I remember my first experience under the Friday Night Lights vividly. Not to brag, but I was only a freshman and yet there I was with Varsity Cheer team, on the sideline, waiting for the game to start. I was nervous to be in action in front of the crowd; The whole town on hand; The student section packed, But I was ready. This was the night I had spent all summer at cheer camp for, the reason why my P.E. elective was SST (speed, strength, training), and the reason why I killed my self running 2-A-Days alongside our "titans". The same night I watched Hayden Panetierre experience through her Bring-It-On career, and cheered along to in my middle school days. (Which by the way, "Are you trying out because of the movie Bring-It-On?" was actually a question on our applications).

I remember holding my right pom across my chest to the National anthem while our boys removed their un-scuffed helmets and took a knee.

Looking back I guess the starters were probably nervous and excited about opening night too, but I wouldn't know. We weren't allow to interact with them until after the game. The coaches didn't want our spanks distracting them to say the least. LOL

A famous coach from a HS prep school once said: " Opening night is where anxiety, fear, excitement, and opportunity come to fruition,". "This night is special because it's a chance to set the tone for the year."

Of course the players are excited to finally tackle someone with a different color Jersey on. But the electric feel doesn't end there - there's a je ne sais quoi to opening night in a small town. It's the annual reunion of the entire school and community. Our fans find "their spot" in the clean stands. Looking out over the field, the sharpness of the paint on the grass at midfield and in the end-zones is noticeably crisp. Concessions are stocked. Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.

I miss feeling the vibrations of the first "CLACK" as two players collide. I miss launching my little ballerina in to the air and getting in trouble for catching her too high. Dare I say I miss shin splints from pointing my toes? Reminiscing on the golden days has caused a bit of a mid-life crisis and a longing for the college-girl life. LOL Although I'm still unsure about committing to 13 years of university education for a doctorate in cosmetic dermatology.. we shall see.

Even though she's a basketball fan, we did have a nice girls night out at BWW before I left!
