Random Notes from a Little Red Notebook: Thursday's To-do at Hustler Hollywood
Carly and I pull into the Hustler Hollywood parking structure after a trip from AVN Intergalactic Headquarters. At my urging, she took Coldwater Canyon over the hill instead of her first choice, Laurel Canyon... She was kind of bored until we crossed Monte Cielo Drive... Strip traffic was light, and the right turn into Hustler Hollywood is much easier than a left across Sunset... We start looking around, and there's an announcement on the PA: "Theresa, your father is on lime one."... Scott Tucker comes in, we chat... Bill Margold at a table with a couple of friends, all in Free Speech Coalition shirts... A tall black woman teetering around on 6" cork heels... The Wicked contingent walks in, Joy King, Steve Orenstein, Devinn Lane. We say hi, and explain that Carly's doing the news story, I'm doing the color commentary. They point at their clothes. Steve's in black, Devinn in a light green, Joy in brown.... Jimmy and Dustin Flynt come in, start working the crowd... A lady in a stars-and-stripes bustier... I meet up with a writer I know, he starts telling me stories about a mutual friend who died recently... Funny stuff... Sunrise Adams walks in, in makeup that makes her look older.... Wayne is here. I see him chatting with Devinn Lane... A woman walks by with a tray of champagne. Carly doesn't want any, because she's driving. I'm not. I take one... The lady in red, white, and blue straddles the balustrade as cameras flash... Sunset Thomas walks in with Dennis Hof... The writer calls me over to a table, introduces me to a friend of his, a mainstream screenwriter, "and you're probably the only person in here who knows what he's done." Actually, I met him many years ago at a screening when he asked me to tell Teri Garr that he was looking for her. "We're still friends," the screenwriter beams... Daniel Metcalf has joined the Wicked contingent... Joey Buttafuoco... Jake Jacobs, taking video with a shoulder camera... Sunset and Sunrise pose on the stairs as cameras flash, then Sunset does a little flashing herself. She pulls her skirt up. No panties. Can't say I'm surprised... Dee standing on the balcony, watching the people mingle... Sunrise poses for pictures as some guy peppers me with questions about her: "Who is she? What has she done? Does she do anal?" Like I know every title... Larry Flynt comes in. He's lost weight, and looks pretty good for a guy in his condition... Carly walks up and talks to him for a moment... Mary Carey is here, standing a good six feet tall and impossibly round, curved everywhere you look... Brad Armstrong has joined the Wicked group... The black frames of jet-black terrazzo come out. The guy in charge takes the bronze plates, presses them firmly in the goo. Sunset stands there, watching him measure the space with his own hands, her hands glistening with baby oil... She has put her rings in a cup, held by Suzette from the Bunnyranch... I wave Sunrise over and she takes a place looking over my shoulder as Sunset drops her top and pushes a boob toward Larry Flynt, who licks it. "You must be so proud," I say to her. She looks up and says, quiet, determined, "That's going to be me someday."... Sunset is moved by Flynt's speech about her accomplishments... Flynt says about brother Jimmy, "He's fucked more porn stars than Ron Jeremy." Jimmy smiles, but he doesn't dispute it... The molding over, I say to Sunrise that I really like her new mature look. "What are you now, 20?" I ask. "Almost!" she replies... Sunset flashes out the window at the people looking in... The party dissipates, people walking down the street to the Key Club for the after party... Carly and I finally grab a moment with Theresa, and have a quick but enjoyable chat before she gets back to work... We go to the Key Club, and Carly says she wants to meet Brad Armstrong... I try to introduce her, but he's in rapt conversation with a guy at the bar... We finally meet up downstairs with the whole Wicked crew, and I introduce Carly to Brad under the watchful eye of Daniel Metcalf. They hit it off, trading stories about their Canadian background... They make the gimlets with Skyy vodka at the Key Club's downstairs lounge... We finally take our leave, walking down Sunset when we meet up with Sharon Mitchell and a friend, who happen to be here for another occasion entirely. I tell her about the ceremony, and mention how different Sunrise Adams looks with the new makeup. "What, she isn't wearing knee socks and a kilt?" Mitch asks, then pushes her voice up two octaves, "How am I gonna pay for this pizza?" Mimicking the classic bad porn plot. Carly gets into it as well. "Wow, mister, I've never seen one so big before!" Laughter in the night on the Sunset Strip as we toss off clichs.
