Donations still being sought for
fireworks
There will be fireworks on Saturday, but
organizers are still fighting to raise enough money to pay for
them.
Janice Ayres said she has pledges and cash for
$7,675, still more than $4,000 short of the $12,000 minimum
needed to pay the whole amount.
Ayres' Retired Senior
and Volunteer Program is guaranteeing the fireworks, but she
is working to raise the entire sum.
"Right now I've got
$1,300 cash in the bank," she said. "I hope we can raise the
rest of the money before Nevada Day."
On Wednesday, the
Sagebrush and Moonlite Bunnyranch brothels pledged $3,000 to
the fireworks effort.
They join the Horseshoe Club with
a pledge of $2,000, the Nevada Appeal with a pledge of $1,500
and Western Nevada Supply, which donated $1,000, and the
Greater Nevada Credit Union, which pledged $500.
Ayres
said she is determined to see fireworks, especially this
Nevada Day.
"It was especially important since we are
dedicated our part of Nevada Day to our law enforcement,
firemen and military and those who suffered in the Sept. 11
tragedy," she said. "We couldn't just turn around and not do
this."
Ayres urged people to donate to the
cause.
"I hope people can see their way to go by First
National Bank of Nevada and drop off a few bucks," she said.
"It all adds up."
The fireworks will be at dusk on
Saturday.
