I'm guessing this has been said before but I'm new on this site so I don't know. I think some version of the Bunny Ranch needs to be brought to Canada . As far as I know legal brothels don't exist here and I think that needs to change. Maybe it's a legal thing but if there is a way to bring legal brothels to Canada then I hope it gets done.

  2. Do you just WISH they could, but I think there's a legal issue for a brothel north of the border.

To my knowledge only Nevada has laws legalizing this, and everyone else runs the risk of being arrested and shutdown.

Right now the whole thing is before the Supreme Court, but if nothing changes, currently brothels ARE legal in Canada.

Sex between a client and a prostitute is also legal. However, the act of soliciting is currently not legal and up in the air, although police aren't really enforcing it so much.

But the Bunny Ranch is more than simply "a legal brothel." It's Disneyland for adults...and the rides are spectacular and unlike anything you'll find anywhere else...

I have to admit I didn't think I'd get support from a cali girl and a texas girl seeing as you are use to warmer temperatures and Canada is cold 10 months of the year. but I love the enthusiasm.

the way the laws are being pushed through

it doesn't look very likely that brothels will be legal here any time soon.

I was under the impression they were legal here

  17. A brothel isn't illegal technically, but solicitation is, so cops have a "loophole" to exploit to raid any brothel that tries to open it's doors.
I think, I could be wrong.

if that's the case that sucks. But maybe there is a loophole within the loophole. Could it not be argued that the client is paying the lady for her time and that sex was not part of any paid arrangement making the act legal. Yes it's greasy but this law against prostitution is so fucking stupid.

the current state of legality of prostitution in CAnada

the actual act of selling or purchasing sex is currently legal.
owning/operating/working in a brothel/bawdy house is currently illegal
    solicitation is currently illegal.

notice my use of the word 'current' because there is a bill currently working it's way through the government that is going to change these things. C-36 would be that bill.

back in December of 2013, certain laws were struck down because they were found unconstitutional. such as operating and working ina bawdy house (or brothel) but the catch was, that they would remain on the books for one year until the gov. could come up with something different that was charter compliant
so, despite the fact that the laws concerning brothels were struck down, they are still, in fact, illegal... until December 2014. unless the conservative gov can bring into effect other laws before then

the new bill basically rewrote the old laws that were stuck down effectively maintaining the status quo that made sex work dangerous
in addition, Bill C-36, will criminalize the purchase of sex (something that was never illegal before in Canada) .... in hopes that it will abolish prostitution in Canada by reducing the demand for sex.

and because we have a majority Conservative government right now, this bill will likely pass before the deadline in December of 2014.
purchasers of sex and sex work clients like ourselves can only hope that it gets hung up in the houses or committee or debates until the election in 2015 in which it'll be tossed and a completely new bill will have to be written and the process starts over (if the then-current gov decides to write a new bill)

  20. If it were up to me prostitution, as in the Bunny Ranch, would be legal every in Canada and the US (including the territories and DC.) If it gives people jobs then I'm all for it.

that's the trick isn't it. a lot of working ladies put a disclaimer up that they sell time and any thing that happens (sex) is between two consenting adults
with the new laws, the sex worker is safe from the law, but the client is not. the onus is on the purchaser to prove that they're not buying sex
"oh no officer, i found that envelope on the floor, I though she dropped it and i was just giving it back"
"but sir, I am contracting her for some design consulting work"
    etc etc

This may not be as bad as it sounds. Yes it sucks that sex work could be made illegal ZBUT you did say there is an election in 2015 so if the liberals are elected it is possible and perhaps even likely that sex work would again be legalized this bill should it pass May not last long.

I think most people who come to this board is pro legal sex work
and probably only a matter of time before you do :p given your use of the word 'yet'

and yes, there is a tiny glimmer of hope that C-36 won't pass, but don't be surprised if/when it does

and if it does, it'll take a few more years for another challenge to work it's way through the courts and there's no guarantee that the outcome of said challenge will be one favourable to us "perverts: (Peter McKay's words, not mine) or sex workers.

After doing some research and finding out exactly what bill C-36 is I have come to the conclusion that as it is currently written it CAN NOT be allowed to pass. While there are aspects of the bill that may be positive like the fact they have 20 million set aside to help those forced in the sex trade get out or at least that's what they claim.

Not everybody that owns a brothel or purchases sex is a criminal.

Get rid of the scumbags in the industry, help any and all girls that got into it the wrong way I am all for that. But people like me or you crumbie or any of the people on this site are NOT criminals and should NOT be treated as such just because we paid or are willing to pay for sex.

The girls are getting screwed too because while it is still legal for you to sell sex it is illegal for me to buy it that's like having a grocery store and it being legal to own the store but anyone that tries to buy food gets arrested I would LOVE for someone to explain to me how that makes ANY fucking sense?

welcome to the club, my friend.
the stupid bit about this is this based on the 'nordic model' but even over in Sweden, this model has proven not to work and rumor has it that they're thinking of repealing the law. there was a short term drop in prostitution but rebounded later, and the same will happen here I believe
I have seen the occassional independent escort between visits to the bunny ranch, and doubt I'm going to stop if this law passes. only visit women I've seen before, or well reviewed ladies... greatly reduce the risk of being caught in a police sting.

and just for clarification, that 20mil.. is for over a period of 5 years. 4 mil per year. how is that little amount going to help all the sex workers exit the industry?? it's just not going to work.
