This is not exactly news, but I’ve just now had the opportunity to talk about this.

So if you live in Utah, Pornhub is now inaccessible, unless you have a VPN. I am shopping for good deals on VPNs. Sometimes living in Utah absolutely fucking sucks!

How to Watch Pornhub in Utah in 2023
Utah’s legislature signed a bill in March 2023 that would force residents of the state to show ID each time they want to access Pornhub and other porn websites. As a result, Pornhub has completely blocked its service in Utah. Thankfully, you can skirt the restrictions by using a VPN. Learn how to watch Pornhub in Utah in this easy guide.

The U.S. state of Utah recently passed a new law that has rubbed many the wrong way. The new legislation, expected to come into effect in March 2024, is set to require porn sites to ask for ID on each visit. As a sign of protest, Pornhub has pulled out of Utah, leaving prospective porn watchers hanging. Don’t dust off the old Playboys yet, though. This guide will show you how to watch Pornhub in Utah with a good VPN.

Key Takeaways: How to Watch Pornhub in Utah
      • Utah is making porn inaccessible to minors under a new law signed in March 2023, which has the goal of protecting children from adult content and sexually explicit materials.
      • The Utah law attempts to require ID verification on each visit to a social media or porn site, drawing the ire of pornography giant, Pornhub.
      • In retaliation, Pornhub has blocked Utah residents from accessing the site, along with other adult websites under the same parent company, including Brazzers, YouPorn and RedTube.
      • Thankfully, you can still access Pornhub by using a VPN, like ExpressVPN, to spoof your location and make it seem as if you’re outside of Utah.
Pornhub uses your IP address to check your location. If it sees a Utah IP address, it will block you from entering the adult sites owned by its parent company. Thankfully, a VPN can assign you a new IP address that makes it seem as though you’re connecting from a different state, or even a different country. Keep reading for a quick and easy guide on how to use a VPN to unblock porn in Utah.
      • As of March 2024, pornography sites will be required to ask Utah residents for identification, as the state has made it illegal to allow minors access to porn.

      • Pornhub — and its sister sites YouPorn, RedTibe and Brazzers — have begun blocking access to their sites by Utah residents and devices with Utah IP addresses.

      • You can watch porn in Utah without an ID by using a VPN to change your location to a different state with no porn bans.
Pornography Laws: Utah Porn Ban Explained
If you happened to wake up in Utah on May 3 and tried to go about your morning business on adult site Pornhub, you might have felt deflated upon seeing a much more wholesome video than you’d expected. In the video, adult actress Cheri DeVille informs Utahns that their state has decided to enact unreasonable measures to block access to porn sites.

Speaking on behalf of Pornhub, she further states that, if passed, the Utah age verification laws require intrusive age verification methods, such as providing your ID every time you visit a pornography site. In protest, Pornhub has decided to completely disable access for all residents of Utah (or more specifically, devices with Utah IP addresses).

Utahns trying to access adult platform Pornhub will be greeted with a video message explaining why they can’t access the site.
The law, signed in March 2023, also affects social media sites, requiring the same age verification requirement, as well as placing a default curfew on social media between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.

Age verification laws like this aren’t unheard of; a similar law was passed in Louisiananot too long ago, with copycat laws emerging in around a dozen other states. A further dozen are proposing similar laws.

Criticism of Utah’s Age Verification Law
The Utah law has been criticized by opponents, Pornhub included, for creating new privacy risks due to the possible interception of traffic. These opponents argue age verification laws could identify users and would leave citizens’ full identification documents exposed.

Other criticisms include Utah’s Congress failing to utilize other technological alternatives, such as device ID, which would be much less intrusive and would not present such a risk to privacy.

Utah legislators could change their minds about the ordeal, though we wouldn’t count on that happening. Although Utah is the nation’s largest porn consumer per capita, the majority of its Congress members belong to the deeply conservative Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, popularly known as the Mormon Church.

How to Unblock Pornhub in Utah With a VPN
If you’re thirsty for some saucy soaking videos, all you need to do is install a VPN and connect to a state that isn’t Utah. Choosing a location that’s nearby, like Colorado or Nevada, will get you better speeds than if you connect to somewhere farther away, like New York.

If you’re worried about getting caught watching porn, there’s no danger if you’re using a secure VPN. A VPN encrypts your connection, making it almost impossible for anyone to know who you are or what you’re watching on the internet, unless they happen to walk in on you in the middle of a steamy session.

The guide below will show you how to penetrate the porn barrier and unblock Pornhub in Utah in three easy steps, using ExpressVPN as an example. All plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
      1. Download and Install a VPN
Go to ExpressVPN’s website (or another VPN’s website), choose a subscription and download the installer. Run the installer and follow the steps in the install wizard to install the VPN.

      2. Log in and Connect to a Server
Once your VPN is installed, log in with your account and connect to a server. We’ll choose Denver for this test, as it’s the closest location ExpressVPN offers. Just click on the location button, type “Denver” in the search bar and click on the large power button to connect.

      3. Access Pornhub Unblocked
With your new Denver IP address, fire up Pornhub, grab any accouterments you might need and get down to business.

You can also use these steps to bypass Utah’s internet age verification laws for other sites and social media apps.

The Best VPNs to Watch Pornhub in Utah
Below are our top picks for unblocking Pornhub in Utah. We’ve tested over 70 VPNs, and the ones we chose are consistently the best at unblocking online content, including porn websites, without slowing your internet connection down to a crawl.

      1. ExpressVPN
      [IMG]
ExpressVPN is the best VPN for Utah porn enjoyers.
      Pros:
      • Beginner-friendly
      • Servers close to Utah
      • Unlocks pornography sites
      Cons:
      • Expensive
ExpressVPN is the best VPN we’ve tested so far, thanks to its airtight security, incredible speeds and unmatched ability to unblock content. It has servers in Denver, Phoenix and Albuquerque, which will ensure that your connection is fast enough to stream Pornhub videos in the highest quality available. Plus, it’s one of the easiest VPNs to use, even if you can barely use a computer.

You’ll pay a hefty price for the experience, though, as, at $6.66 per month, ExpressVPN is one of the more expensive VPNs out there. Thankfully, it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can give it a trial run and see if you think it’s worth the price. Read our ExpressVPN review for a deeper dive into the service.

      Pros:

      Cons:
      • Slower speed on free version

Free users might also face lower speeds, meaning you might not be able to watch porn in HD. Still, it’s the best free VPN around, thanks to its unlimited data, which lets you watch as much porn as you want.

Although it’s free, Proton VPN also has paid plans. It’s not the most affordable VPN, though, with the cheapest plan costing $4.99 per month. You can try the free versionto see if you like it, or use its 30-day money-back guarantee to test out the paid version. Our Proton VPN review has more titillating details about the service.

Final Thoughts: Access Pornhub in Utah
Utah’s new age verification law is meant to prevent minors from accessing pornographic material, but it goes about it in a way that many people — youths and adults alike — deem too drastic and difficult to implement. However, despite lawmakers’ best efforts, it’s very easy to unblock Pornhub in the Beehive State. The only thing you need is a VPN, like ExpressVPN.

What are your thoughts on Utah’s age verification requirement for pornography and social media sites? Have you ever used a VPN before? Do you think the internet data harvesting concerns are justified, or that it’s better to protect children from sexually explicit materials and possible sexual exploitation? Leave us your thoughts in the comments below and, as always, thank you for reading.

  8. I’m a little surprised it took them this long. Hasn’t pornography been illegal in Utah for quite a while?

It is weird to think of the contrast between a highly conservative and religious state such as Utah, and its highly morally liberal neighbor of Nevada, which is right next-door.

Utah had a porn czar for a few years. They ended up giving her the boot, but the state is fucked up! It’s mostly the LDS church, which has a history of polygamy, a perverted practice when you get right down to it. For Utah to gain statehood, the church had to abandon polygamy so they did…on paper. It’s still practiced in not so secret with reality TV (Sister Wives, Tom Green doing the talk show rounds) and the Kingston and Jeffs clans.

LDS Church: Be fruitful, multiply, but for the love of god don’t look at any porn!

I’ve always said the one advantage to living in Utah is that Nevada is just to the west.

An unintended consequence of these ID Verification laws is to restrict people's access to discussions of sex through the comments section provided by Pornhub. These discussions provide vital support for people to talk about sex without having to feel shame. I'm grateful for this message board!

Using government to force your own preferences on others is EVIL! Prohibition didn't work for alcohol; it doesn't work for drugs or porn either!

I fully agree. If you push these things underground and make it illegal, congratulations, you made a black market. Now it’s controlled by crime bosses. Getting rid of Backpage didn’t stop anything. It just pushed the girls that used it to other venues.

Politicians never learn, especially the evangelical motherfuckers. And a lot of them use the substances and such that they themselves have deemed illegal. Rules for thee, not for me.

Disregarding constitutional issues of people being able to access porn, how is it technically possible to ban site access on a state-by-state basis? I'd understand how it can be done if it were for the whole country, but to the outside eye a laptop near the border in Utah looks just like one half a mile away in Nevada or Colorado.

If the technology is available, Utah will use it. This is the state that censored Disney movies, after all. Cleanflix was a big deal here but it’s gone now.

  16. The backwards laws, especially on alcohol is one major reason I left for Nevada, no state income tax, wine and hard liqueur in grocery store (and less state alcohol tax) and scenery just as good as Utah (at least near Lake Tahoe). I hated having to go way out of my way to get some wine to go with a pasta dinner. At least they loosened restrictions on beer at grocery stores a little by allowing more than 3.2 beer.

It actually may run afoul of the 1st Amendment because if people can't see what Pornhub has to say, effectively they can't say it.
It also may violate the 14th Amendment because Pornhub is the only adult content channel being banned, but others aren't. And the 14th requires that the law apply equally.

If Pornhub doesn't challenge this (because I'm pretty sure they'd win), I expect it comes down to the Legal and Leadership departments comparing the cost of the lawsuits to the number of customers they have in Utah and saying "It's just not worth it".

Old Nick and Hentai Ryu like this.
  20. Yeah, I'm pretty sure they would win too. Freedom of speech is an important thing. If someone doesn't want to go to PH, the solution is simple... don't go there. People have a choice as to what they do and do not view. We live in some interesting times. :)

PornHub would surely win the case. Some years back, movie studios sued video stores that took it upon themselves to edit movies because basic cable censorship wasn’t good enough for them…and won! CleanFlix was a thing back in the mid 2000s and movie studios took notice. I guess the mentality was “I want to see Die Hard, but without the blood and the swears!” They did play it on regular TV on occasion.

Utah is a very fucked up state! The LDS Church basically influences the legislature. What else would you expect from a state founded on group sex? Yes, polygamy counts! One wife per night? It’s still multiple partners!

I just get fired up talking about the church. It does seem like they’re losing ground lately in Utah, but they’re also buying up a lot of land in other states. For what, I can’t say. From sex cult to real estate. I don’t get it!

I did a little reading and the ban is reasonable. It can be easily bypassed by VPN, but it's reasonable and here's why:

UT didn't specifically ban PH, but it did require age verification. But UT doesn't have the tools for reliable digital age verification so PH doesn't have a way to comply with the law, so they self-censored. It makes sense that PH has this requirement and other sites don't because pay-for-content sites have built-in age verification with a credit card requirement.

Louisiana has this where you give your driver's license to a third party company that supplies a digital cookie. The cookie (allegedly) does not have your personal information and the government (allegedly) is not watching what websites you log on to with your digital ID.

Now do I think that UT kids are going to suddenly not have access to porn? Of course not. Even if UT somehow applied this law to every site that had free porn, teenage boys would find a way to get their hands on it. But I can understand where the legislature's coming from.

  25. This is still America isn't it? Wouldn't this be considered a Freedom of Speech or Censorship issue? And who gives the state the right to do this?

Old Nick and Hentai Ryu like this.
  26. Sometimes I wonder if it's still America. I can't imagine this will stick for very long because it does violate freedom of speech.

Utah does have strip clubs, but the girls have to wear pasties on their nipples. Those are the alcoholic bars. The non alcohol bars do feature full nude, but no lap dances. One location had couch dances for a while but that location closed. Utah is very weird concerning sex, never mind the fact that the state was built on group sex. Yes, polygamy counts. One wife per night, but it’s still multiple partners.

Utah’s legislature is heavily lobbied by the LDS Church. Pretty much why our liquor laws suck. They also hate porn. I guess the bishops will have to use VPNs to do their “research.”

Sometimes, I think Utah would prefer to be it’s own country rather than a state.

You know, 16 years ago, I was planning to move to Nevada. That’s a decision I should have made then. I was researching jobs and housing. I was sick of Utah.

    Then…

Life intervened. I got married and had a child.

I was married for almost ten years. I divorced back in 2018. So I have visitation with my daughter.

If I hadn’t met my wife, I’d have for sure moved to Nevada, possibly either Elko, Sparks, Reno, Carson, maybe Vegas. I was looking for a job anywhere.

So why do I stay in a state I can’t stand, knowing the state I care more about is just to the west? My daughter. I try to be involved in her life as much as I can.
