To LARomeo, Mixie, and RBPoore - The Hunger Games did NOT disappoint!I would highly recommend going out and getting the first book. I ordered the other two and they should be here tomorrow. I can't wait to get my hands on them! I can't remember the last time I read through a book that fast. I started Sunday night and finished on Tuesday morning! SO GOOD! Please go buy it! ![Heart fill with love [smilie=heart fill with love.gif]](./chat_old/images/smilies/Heart fill with love.gif)

First, welcome back Ruby. I finally completed the Illiad yesterday. It was probably my eighth attempt over a period of years, so I can't say I loved it. It was more of a goal to accomplish, but looking back, I am glad. I did it. I like historical books. Now onto Michael Connelly and Detective Bosch (who is the best).

Yesterday I started A Stolen Life, Jaycee Dugard's memoir about her kidnapping in Lake Tahoe, where she was trapped in a man and woman's backyard for EIGHTEEN years! So far, it's good. Very much sad, but good. What a strong woman to be able to write and relive all of that trauma. I hope her story helps many others. ![Heart fill with love [smilie=heart fill with love.gif]](./chat_old/images/smilies/Heart fill with love.gif)

Thanks Ruby, that means a lot to me coming from you. I think the worst part was expecting to read about the Trojan Horse and finding out it is not in the Illiad.

RBPoore wrote: Just finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and started Breakfast At Tiffany's by Truman Capote. Actually, I'm over halfway done with Breakfast as of this morning. A very fast read. I am enjoying it, but I'm not sure where it is going. I wanted to read the book before watching the movie. It is my understanding that there were quite a few changes that Capote did to approve of in the movie.
After that, I need to get back to Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix, and finish The Nerdist Way by Chris Hardwick. I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!!! I still need to buy all the books. I had them, but when I did some moving around during high school they got tossed out by family members Rereading them is something I should put on my to-do list. Is it horrible I haven't read Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's? Eeeek. I need to put that at the TOP of my to-do list! I have his novel, "In Cold Blood" waiting to be read in my bookcase right now. I've heard that's his best piece of work. ![Heart fill with love [smilie=heart fill with love.gif]](./chat_old/images/smilies/Heart fill with love.gif)

Just finished Jaycee Dugard's memoir "A Stolen Life".
Very sad. Even though the physical abuse stopped for good after she had her first child with Philip, the psychological damage was tremendous and he manipulated her so badly! It must have been so hard for her to adjust to real life. A good book nonetheless!
Now I'm onto Nicholas Sparks' "The Best of Me".
What is everyone else reading right now?

I enjoy reading. I'm more in to biographies, philosophical books. Where, I can learn something new, just my choice. You could call me a knowledge junkie hehe. I also like to read older books, that have been out for a long while, which could be called historical books. I'm presently reading, the final days by Woodward and Bernstein, the journalist that revealed the Watergate scandal in the 70's and Nixon and Kissinger, partners in power. I love the picture of you in the initial posting of this thread. If you where a librairian at my local librairy, I would be threre everyday, just to admire your beauty. ![Heart fill with love [smilie=heart fill with love.gif]](./chat_old/images/smilies/Heart fill with love.gif)

Let's be honest now folks, if Ruby (in those glasses) were holding a copy of the Reno Yellow Pages, how many of us would go out and get a copy? (my hand is up)
I'm actually in-between books right now, taking a breather after finishing book four of A Song of Ice and Fire (the series HBO's Game of Thrones is based on).
I will second the recommendations for Into the Wild and Born to Run though, both are fantastic reads. And, to actually make a contribution, can I suggest The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys? It's fiction, it's short, it'll blow you away. At least, it did me.

I just finished The Hunger Games, and it was very good. I will watch the movie also. I am also close to finishing End Game, which is a great read on the life of Bobby Fischer. There truly is a fine line between genius and madness. Fischer had an IQ of 180! Before his match with Boris Spassky, he studied various games, and memorized 14,000 moves played by Spassky. He was actually happy when America was attacked on September 11th. Felt sorry for him at times, but mostly disgusted.

What I'm reading: The End of The Soul by Jennifer Michael Hecht What it's about: It's the true story of a bunch of 19th century French atheists who turn their back on their old spiritual beliefs. In so doing, they feel the need to find something other than faith to give meaning to their lives, so they form a secular cult called "The Society of Mutual Autopsy." The rituals and philosophy of this group ended up giving rise to the scientific method as we now know it. What I think...: I'm about half-way through so far, and this book is already fascinating, especially for those who have backgrounds in psychology, anthropology, history, or philosophy. If you're in the mood for some solid non-fiction, I cannot recommend this enough!

Started Hunger Games, which is starting out depressing. Please let it get better. And started Harry Potter and the Order Of The Pheonix. I think I know which of the books I'm going to enjoy the most. Gosh, you read like a madman! Kudos to you. The Hunger Games is very depressing, but it has so much depth for a young adult series! Much unlike Twilight.......which it is being compared to, which I hate! Oh, and Harry Potter book 5 is my favorite xoxo ![Heart fill with love [smilie=heart fill with love.gif]](./chat_old/images/smilies/Heart fill with love.gif)

Hahaha, you are funny! Thank you I've heard that the series based on Game of Thrones is really good! I will have to check it out. and I will also check out The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys! Thanks! xoxo ![Heart fill with love [smilie=heart fill with love.gif]](./chat_old/images/smilies/Heart fill with love.gif)

He was actually happy when America was attacked on September 11th. Felt sorry for him at times, but mostly disgusted. Yayyyy! Another Hunger Games fan! Yippee! Glad you liked it WOW! IQ of 180! i haven't read the book or seen the movie but as a general rule the book is always better than the movie. and i've also noticd that rarely does one have motivation to read the book after they've seen the movie...

I saw The Hunger Games the other night! Jade, Kimberly, Nikki, and myself all went out for a date
The movie was really really good! They did a good job representing the book. A few key elements were left out, and people who hadn't read the books may have been a little confused.
All in all, the book was a lot better, but the movie was still good ![Heart fill with love [smilie=heart fill with love.gif]](./chat_old/images/smilies/Heart fill with love.gif)

I have a friend who was really into Dune. I'll have to see if he agrees. I'll have to disagree here. I've read the book, seen the David Lynch movie and the 2000 tv mini series. if you're not a big reader, watch the tv mini series. it is, by far, better of the two film adaptations and more accurate to the book. and even though i'm fond of the David Lynch movie, the book is way way better.

if you're not a big reader, watch the tv mini series. it is, by far, better of the two film adaptations and more accurate to the book. and even though i'm fond of the David Lynch movie, the book is way way better. I wasn't really thinking of the miniseries as its easier to be true to the book if you can spread it out over multiple days, I was thinking of the Lynch movie and it didn't do justice to the book.

Hey Snickerss, I have a penchant for being confused and also confusing other people lol. Just ask Ruby. Seems like we agree The Godfather and Ruby are both great, and that is cool.

Has anyone read Fifty Shades of Grey by E L James?
It's really making the headlines! It's the number one bestseller right now......I'm thinking I should buy it and see what all the fuss is about!

I'm reading Fifty Shades of Grey right now! It's atrociously written, but it is kind of addicting. Definitely a guilty pleasure. What floored me was finding out that it started as Twilight fan-fiction!

I may not be the voracious reader I once was, but I now have City of Golden Shadow by Tad Williams (Book 1 of Otherland series) on my nightstand.

What's it about, crumbie? not sure, I only finished the book i was working on a few days ago and h aven't had a chance to really take a big bite out of it yet. Sorry. I can say that it is science fiction/cyber-punk and Tad Williams is a well known fantasy author ... so this should be good... even if it's SF.

I have just finished wicked whispers by Jessica Callan. A very funny and revealing look at the way an English show business newspaper column came about and what happened while one member of staff was working there and eventually ended up running it. I loved it and was crying with laughter at some of the things that happened.

Please keep us (or mainly me haha) updated on how you like it! Honestly, it's really badly written, but I just can't seem to stop reading it. The BDSM is definitely geared towards people who don't know much about the lifestyle (there are things that a Dom or a Sub would never do), but it's still, as much as I hate to admit it, pretty sexy, and I'm hooked. If you don't mind a guilty pleasure, I'd totally recommend it.

My new phone has a Kindle app, and all the classics are free. I'm rereading The Portrait of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde right now.

Greetings Fair Lady Ruby of the Shire!
I read somewhere that you enjoy reading J.R.R. Tolkien. "The Hobbit", and "The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy" are some of my favorite storys of all time.
Have you read his book, "The Silmarillion"? It is really superb, I think. You might like it too. What can I say, we are NERDS, and proud of it!
Here is a book summary I got off the internet, in case you have not read it already. WW"The tales of The Silmarillion were the underlying inspiration and source of J.R.R. Tolkien's imaginative writing; he worked on the book throughout his life but never brought it to a final form. Long preceding in its origins The Lord of the Rings, it is the story of the First Age of Tolkien's world, the ancient drama to which characters in The Lord of the RIngs look back and in which some of them, such as Elrond and Galadriel, took part."
"The title Silmarillion is shortened from Quenta Silmarillion, "The History of the Silmarils," the three great jewels created by Feanor, most gifted of the Elves, in which he imprisoned the light of the Two Trees that illumined Valinor, the land of the gods. When Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, destroyed the Trees, that light lived on only in the Silmarils; Morgoth seized them and set them in his crown, guarded in the impenetrable fortress of Angband in the north of Middle-earth. The Silmarillion is the history of the rebellion of Feanor and his people against the gods, their exile in Middle-earth, and their war, hopeless despite all the heroisim of Elves and Men, against the great Enemy."

And yes, I know I should probably be reading books instead of watching movies Uh, duh! Read the book first. Not a lot of the movie versions of his books are that great. I finished it a few days ago, and I did like it, but there are others I've liked better.

Definitely makes me all hot and bothered I wouldn't want to be reading it in public! I'm definitely not experienced in the Dom/Sub area, so what are some of the things in the book that real Dom and Subs wouldn't do in real life? It's definitely fascinating!

I started reading Fifty Shades of Grey today and I'm determined to have it finished by the end of tonight! I see what the hype is about.....While it's not the best writing what so ever, the story and all it's erotica is quite enticing
