Did you know that in Breda, Netherlands (beautiful city by the way should you ever get a chance to visit) there is Redhead festival to bring redheaded folk together and to fight silly anti-redhead nonsense like some stupid Kick a Ginger day started a few years back?

Vodafone launched an advertising campaign a few years back detailing the quest of someone who opted to hold a Redhead festival in Red Square, Moscow, to bring redheads together to start new relationships. The advert ended with the proud claim that 27 new redheaded couples had come together. However, I'm not sure whether this is true or not, or merely a marketing gimmick.

As coincidence would have it, I was watching TV a week or two ago - Discovery or Nat Geo (can't remember which) and it was a programme about commonly held beliefs that are actually not true (Not Mythbusters)... It mentioned the 100 year thing for redheads but said it was a myth because the gene would still exist and it is very, very unlikely that the redhead gene will ever vanish.

She has what were called favourites, with Robert Dudley being the most famous. However, there is no proof that she ever slept with him or anybody else. Sex outside of marriage would have carried a risk to her Throne (and there were enough of them, the Spanish had eyes on the English throne) so it is possible she may not have risked it although it is also possible that she simply managed it very, very quietly and discreetly.

The Virgin Queen moniker is actually because she is believed to have died a virgin, quite simply, because sex before marriage and children out of wedlock were considered quite devilish (in public and social circles at least, perhaps not so much in private) during the Tudor era.

There are some rumours that Elizabeth I was physically incapable of having sex (I'm not going into graphic details though!) although this could have simply been rumours started by her opponents and enemies. Anne Boleyn (who apparently had auburn hair), was the victim of some nasty rumour-mongering with suggestions she had 3 breasts and 11 fingers! However, these rumours were likely started as she wasn't very popular amongst the English, who favoured Henry VIII's first wife Catherine of Aragon (also had reddish hair!) for protecting England from a Scottish invasion while Henry was off eating his way through France... sorry, I mean, fighting a war in France.

But yeah, it would seem possible that Elizabeth I did it on the sly. There wasn't quite the coverage you get nowadays when someone receives a BJ in their office.

In the TV show Blackadder (dunno if it has ever been aired in the US) starring Rowan Atkinson, during the second series Queen Elizabeth I was portrayed as an extremely childish and extremely flirty lady who would fall for a man one minute and then on a whim decide to have him executed.

Series 2 was the Elizebethan era.

Series 3 was the Regency Era, with Hugh Laurie, now of House fame, taking the role of the Prince Regent.

And Series 4 was set in the trenches of World War I.

She tasted like bubblegum, glowed in the sun, and dated every boy except for me. I was utterly in love with a little redhead in college who seemed to shoot sparks out of her mouth every time she talked about her passions, from art to politics to music. I finally got a chance to kiss her after years of mooning over her, sending her poems, talking late into the night about her favorite topics, which included the occult, Northern Irish politics, and "Why All The Boys Who Aren't You Be Crazy?"

We were at an Irish pub where laddies from "back home" were pounding pints. I have a thought on the ginger mystery. Wasn't Ginger on Gilligan's Island, a redhead? Besides Ruby and an ex-girlfriend, my favorite redhead is Rita Hayworth. Yes, I know I am showing my age! I think I have a Ruby Rae synapse right next to the Barbie synapse. The sparking sound in my head is much louder after last weekend. I've never seen an albino squirrel. Black squirrels are almost as common as grey ones here. Red ones are also common and a bit aggressive. I kicked one off my siding as it tried to get to the bird feeder. It jumped up in the tree and started yelling/chirping at me like "How dare I tell it to get out of here" Go get some acorns or something.
